We left the house about 5am...Nathan shuttled us for this part of the trip! We got to the Nashville airport in plenty of time. After we "signed in," we headed to go through security...that went very smoothly. Then we sat for a while at our gate...reading and people watching. Our plane took off a bit early and landed in Baltimore a bit early. We thought that "just maybe" we would be able to catch the 11:15 NIH shuttle, since we got there a bit early and our luggage came off almost immediately. But we were in the wrong part of the airport and had to go up a floor to be where the shuttle pick-up spot was. So we sat from about 11:25 till 1:45pm...reading and people watching. We got the 1:45pm shuttle to NIH. Since we couldn't check into our hotel till 4:00pm, we headed upstairs to see some of the nurses that Woody had had during his 3 + week stay. He got and gave several of the nurses hugs. They seemed to be glad to see us...and are wondering how his treatment had gone since leaving them. We also met Dr. Rosatti in the hall. She said that she would be reading Woody's tests tomorrow after they are finished. Everyone thought that he looked good...several commented on his hair loss.
After seeing the nurses, we went downstairs and waited for the shuttle to take us to the hotel. We got here a little after 4pm. We went up to our room and sort of settled in. Woody showered and I changed his dressing, changed the caps on the lines, and flushed the lines. I think we will only have one more day of this type of dressing change...and tomorrow should be the last time that I have to flush the lines with heparin. I'm ready for that detail of our life to be over! After, doing that we went down to the restaurant and I had zucchini gnocci and Woody had a chicken dish. We decided as long as he didn't have a salad that he could have a meal out...as long as everything was well cooked. We both enjoyed our meal.
Tomorrow will be another day of shuttles...shuttling over to NIH and shuttling back to the hotel. All these shuttles that NIH provides are definitely helpful! Tomorrow will once again be a day of tests. I am falling asleep as I type this...I didn't get a lot of sleep last night and it was 12+ hours from leaving the house to settling into the hotel. So I'll be heading back to our room to crash as soon as I post the blog. I sort of expect that Woody will have crashed by the time that I get back.
When Esther-Noel was very young, I made her a luv-ee out of a really soft fabric called minky. Then I made her another and another...that way one could be washed or not locatable and she would still have one or two. She has about loved her three luv-ees to death...they are looking pretty sad, very faded, and much loved. Now that she has turned three she is "trying" to stop sucking her thumb (which almost automatically goes in her mouth when she picks up a luv-ee). So I decided that I would buy the three colors of minky that I made her original luv-ees from and make her a luv-ee pillow that she keeps on her bed for nap and bed times. So we will see if this helps her to stop carrying a luv-ee around most of the time! She hugged onto it when she opened it and said that she loved it. She trotted it upstairs and put it on her bed when we told her that was where it needed to be...so she would always have it when she goes to bed! On the yard sale day she had us all looking for her favorite luv-ee of the moment, the purple one (finally found it on the bathroom floor in our guest bathroom!). And, while they were traveling this last time, she left it on the playground at a campground and they about had to give it up for lost...but her mommy came to the rescue that time and found it in the bottom of a trash can! So just lately there have been near "disasters" due to not being able to locate her luv-ee...now a luv-ee pillow has a permanent home...her bed (probably either her "home" bed or her "RV" bed). .jpg)
