FYI and an update

I thought that you might find it interesting for me to list all the institutes at NIH...the reason that it is called The National InstituteS of Health:
1) National Library of Medicine
2)National Cancer Institute (NCI)
3)National Eye Institute
4)National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute
5)National Human Genome Research Institute
6)National Institute on Aging
7)National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism
8)National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases
9)National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases
10)National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering
11)Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development
12)National Institute of Deafness and Other Communication Disorders
13)National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research
14)National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases
15)National Institute on Drug Abuse
16)National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences
17)National Institute of General Medical Sciences
18)National Institute of Mental Health
19)National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke
20)National Institute of Nursing Research
Then there are nine centers and offices:
1)Fogarty International Center
2)National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine
3)National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities
4)National Center for Research Resources
5)NIH Clinical Center
6)Office of AIDS Research
7)Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research
8)Office of Rare Diseases Research
9)Office of Research on Women's Health
This shows you the broad spectrum of research that they do at NIH. It is the largest hospital totally dedicated to research in our country (I'm guessing possibly in the world). Woody is being treated mainly by the National Cancer Institute, but the others that I highlighted with a different color he was also treated by while we were there the past three weeks. He was also treated by the pain team and seen by a nutritionist...not sure where they fall...perhaps as a part of the Clinical Center? We noted that they don't just focus on the research that they are doing with you...but they focus on the whole person and try to treat all that ails you! Woody was definitely aided by the pain team...the pain that had plagued him just about 24/7 is just about all gone now due to them trying a different pain medication.
Update: Woody has had a good day today...he has done a good job of not doing much. He did put on his hat once and go out and water a few plants that were thirsty due to the heat wave. I ran errands again this afternoon.
I am posting early this evening because we are going to go to a dinner at church honoring Sunday School teachers.
