Fun Day Lunching and Porch Sitting

Linda H. came over late morning.  We had lunch and a lot of fun visiting both in the house and out on the porch. Thanks to an earlier rain it was quite pleasant on the porch.  Cheryl snapped the above photo of Linda and me in her usual sneaky way!

It is raining again this evening…at present at a pretty good rate.  Since last night we got about an inch all totaled before dark…more is being added as I type.  We're keeping track of how much rain we get while Cheryl is here…might manage to get more than what she gets in a year in AZ!!!

Tomorrow we will hustle around and do the last minute things to get ready for Rachel's and Julianna's arrival Saturday afternoon.

Are We Having Fun, Yet?!?

Tonight's photo collage reflects my sister's sense of humor, warped such as it is!  She gets great pleasure and many laughs from catching me dozing!  Her goal this trip is to catch me dozing in different places around the house.  So far she has gotten me four times…two of those today!  Guess I am getting more tired and less able to keep from dozing when she is around!  Also, I am used to taking naps and haven't taken even one since she has been here.  And, now she won't even let me have a tiny cat nap without giving me a hard time!!  Sisters!!!

We have had a good day.  We worked more on feeding the birds and the birds have started to realize that the feeders are full once again.  They were really flocking around this afternoon…many varieties.  We are also doing a very good job of feeding the squirrels, too.  I had just bought a bird feeder for a cylinder bird seed cake.  The problem was that the feeding pan wouldn't screw on tightly no matter who tried to turn it.  Nathan suggested that perhaps Patrick, Esther's husband, could weld it.  Patrick is in welding school.  Today Nathan brought the feeder back to us all welded.  We didn't put it out this afternoon because there was a threat of rain that really never developed.  We will put it up tomorrow.

Tomorrow Linda H. is going to join us for lunch and I'm sure for a few laughs and lots of talk and catching up.  Cheryl talked with Rachel a little while ago and we are looking forward to Julianna and her joining us Saturday.  We thought that they were coming in late Saturday, but it looks like they may get here around supper time. So busier times are ahead.  But at least most of my packing woes are behind me.  I have had to take a couple things out of the suitcase…like the camera battery charger…but if I use something that I need to take before we leave, I am putting it right back in the suitcase so I won't forget it.

Only 12 days till I’ll be cruising…or will it be dozing?!  Something tells me that it may be very easy to sleep on the plane at this end of the trip.

It Zipped!

I made a goal before In blogged tonight that I would have most of what I was packing in the suitcase and get the suitcase zipped up and weighed.  I accomplished the goal and if the scale is accurate it weighs under the limit…but,,.boy was it heavy to pick up and weigh!  I am as fully packed as I can be at this point…I am referring to the suitcase…I still have to load up the carry on and my personal item/purse.i have placed the items near those two bags and will fill them up in plenty of time.  The best thing is that decisions as to what to take have been made!

Today I received luggage tags from Norwegian.  I got luggage tags all ready yesterday, that they told me to download and print a while back.

Cheryl and I ran a couple of errands today.  She needed a graduation card and I needed to pick up a prescription and also see about getting some waterproof shoes. Hopefully we were successful on all accounts,  I say "hopefully" because they had to order the shoes for me…supposed to be here this coming week.  I hope they do as I need to break them in. The little guy in tonight's photo came up on the porch…surprised him and us!

Time is Passing Quickly!

We have been taking care of the birds…filling feeders with seed…which the squirrels have been doing antics in order to empty them as fast as we fill them.  We also filled and hung humming bird feeders…we don't think they have found those yet.

We have done lots of porch sitting.  I have done some packing…keeping a list of what I have put in the suitcase so I will remember what I have put in!  It’s a bit confusing trying to visit and pack…but I think managing to do both fairly well! 🥴  We've also done a fairly good job of eating.  But I will say the time is going fast.  I have said that I will be pretty much packed when Rachel and Julianna arrive late Saturday night. Time will tell! I also have to do several things to have their bedrooms ready for them. But they will be here rooms ready or not.  Sounds like the game of Hide and Seek…"Ready of not here I come…in this case…here they come!

She's In Tennessee

Cheryl is in TN but she's not in Tullahoma, yet.  I guess with each turn of the car wheel on Melany and Wade's vehicle she gets a little closer!  Her flight was delayed due to air conditioning problems in the plane.  But they finally got off but almost an hour late.  Melany picked her up at the airport and then went to her house to get Wade and Erin.  Erin tends to get car sick so they decided not to have her go to the airport and then back to my house.  But they are now on the interstate so will be here in the next hour.

I decided to go on and blog early as there is no telling what kind of confusion there will be at my usual blogging time.  I have the soup all ready for them.  And, I’m sure the TN folk are especially hungry as it is past our usual supper time.  Cheryl is still two hours behind us on her clock…so she said that she wasn't absolutely starving!

I will update you tomorrow night on our activities to that point.  Tomorrow we celebrate Nathan's birthday at their house in the late afternoon.  So another busy day ahead.  The porch is all ready for Cheryl to do some porch sitting and coffee drinking.  Doubt that she has coffee tonight…but one never knows!

Busy! Busy! BUSY,

Tomorrow night at this time Cheryl should be here.  She gets in around 3pm tomorrow in Nashville.  Melany, Wade and Erin will pick her up at the airport and bring her here they will probably be here 5ish.  So they will eat supper here. I have Stuffed Spud Soup planned and Wade is going to to bring some sour dough bread. I doing the fixings this evening for it…bacon, shredded cheese, sliced green onion tops, and, of course, sour cream, which needs nothing done to prepare it!  I will make the soup tomorrow afternoon so we won't have to reward it.  It was on my list of possible meals while she is here…so this is a good time to serve it.  Something that we have enough of to serve 5 people.

I grocery shopped today…my grocery cart was much more full than it usually is!  I’m pretty much ready.  I will do a little more in the morning and probably some more in the afternoon…I’m really never really ready till the company arrives!

Well, I need o get back in the kitchen…need to crumble bacon and then I’m also making Mother's recipe for Banana-Lemon Tea Bread.  We tend to enjoy using Mother's recipes when we are together…but I use her recipes a lot of other times, too.

I Thought It Was A Leaf!

I was walking back to the house from the compost pile and heading up the ramp to go in the back door and started to flick this leaf off the end of the ramp rail…and realized it wasn't a leaf!  Photo op!  I headed in and got my camera and take a picture or two before he decided to hop off somewhere else.  He was basking in the sun.  Tiny little thing.  I’m sure he is awaiting my sister's arrival to be able to greet her.  Roads are not her favorite critters!

I spent quite a bit of time in the kitchen today…really one of my favorite places to spend time…so that was a good thing.  I did a little cooking…I needed something for my supper.  And, I did some cleaning. Today was the perfect day to clean my oven and it was a cool day…so the heat from the cleaning cycle didn’t build up too much and I was able to open a couple of windows to keep the smell down…and I have a nice clean oven to show for it.  My refrigerator is pretty empty…it’s anticipating being filled tomorrow.  It was the perfect day to wipe off the shelves since I didn't have to move much food around.  So inside of the fridge is all ready for tomorrow's grocery shopping day.

I now need to go put dishes in the dishwasher that I used for supper.  Then my cleaning duties will be done for today.  I also did some bathroom cleaning today.  Two days to go till Cheryl is here and I just looked and it is 18 days till the cruise. 😳 I’m pretty much ready for Cheryl to be here…now…nowhere near ready to go cruising!

The Yard and Carwash Crew Came Today!

Today has seemed like a day-and-a-half!  Lots went on! I switched to the pest control that Nathan was using and had my first inspection and treatment today…so that took a while with two different people…one for "regular ol' pests” and the other to inspect for termites.  Before the termite person left, Nathan, Isaac, Joseph, and Kathy showed up to mow, weed eat, sweep, etc. and to wash my car.  I went to get my camera to capture Joseph, my youngest grandchild (12), tear around on the mower!  Doesn't he look like a cool dude!?! Then I put my camera back in the house, when I went in to get the car key and the others didn't get captured by the camera…but they all worked very hard.  I even got Nathan to take the white rockers off the porch and spray them off so they would be cleaner when we "porch sit" after Cheryl gets here…just three days from now and she will be here.  I also checked out the cruise app this morning and was greeted with 19 days till departure for Alaska!! 😳 Anyway, lots went on outside in my yard today.  And, lots going on in my head attempting to change gears and think company and a trip!

I just got home from Bible study…the last for a few weeks…we will have one for four weeks in June and then take a break until August when school starts back up.

I spent time making a grocery list while the "bug men" were here so that got me thinking food for next week and the next when we will be joined by my niece and her daughter.  So that is a good thing towards getting ready.  I made applesauce by my mother's verbal instructions that I wrote down on a paper years ago.  When I was done with it, it didn't seem to taste just right…of course, Woody always said that my applesauce never tasted as good as my mother’s!  Mother thought it was funny to be known for her applesauce…Mother was a very good cook…so she made us lots of delicious food over the years…but applesauce always stood out to Woody. I have put my applesauce in the refrigerator to get cold and let the flavors meld…I will pass judgment, again, tomorrow when I taste it after it is cold!

I think it is time to stitch!

Here's a Funny Picture for You

I was trying to figure out how to fill the hummingbird feeder and got my picture taken on the bird cam! 🙄 And, I never figured out how to do it.  If I recall when Melany set it up, it wasn't hard to do, but with it hanging and with it all wired up, I haven't figured out how to get to the cylinder to put the hummingbird nectar in.  I saw my first hummingbird today so I want to get my hummingbird feeders filled.

I’ve just done things here and there today…I guess I am a little closer to being ready both for company and my cruise.  This afternoon, Donna and I worked in the library.  It was our first time to work since we got the new computer.  So it was our day to learn how to turn the computer on, log in and get to our library program.  I think by the end of our work time we both have it down.  We each started it up several times to make sure we had it down pat!  Plus we have written down the instructions and have in strategic places to act as cheat sheets…just in case our repetitions today don't stick!!

Today I have mainly worked in the kitchen and the upstairs hall bathroom.  Oh, and, knocked down a lot of boxes that had accumulated.  I got those out on the curb for recycle pickup tomorrow.  Emptied all the inside wastebaskets and got them out to our trash can and dragged it out to the curb, too.  It was heavier than usual…I guess I have been throwing things away!

The washing machine and dryer are calling!

"Things" Are Getting Serious!

Last night Melany called to tell me that the check in for our cruise was open (wasn't supposed to open until today).  Wade had already checked both of them in and they wanted me to go on and check in so we could get the same boarding time. So I followed "orders" and did just that.  It was fairly painless!  I got all checked in and we did get the same boarding time. I guess you can say that was another hurdle cleared before we embark! This morning I found the link to print or download the boarding pass and also for printing luggage tags.  Done and done!  So another hurdle cleared!

I am fairly calm most of the time about this upcoming cruise, but every so often I sort of go into not really panic mode…but something close to that!  I look around me and see all that needs to be done before the cruise…all the little piles of things that I want to take…but will all this "stuff" really fit into my suitcase and be able to fit in plenty of warm clothes, too!?! Gulp!  Today I felt very discombobulated…but this evening I feel calm once again!

What I did was load up the dining room table…why not since I had it all cleared off!  I used it to put out my photography items that I want to take on the cruise,  I made sure that I have batteries, chargers, cords, etc. that I will need for each camera.  I even labeled the cords so I will know what goes with which camera or charger.  Then I started a list with three columns titled "checked bag," "carry on," and "personal item." And, listed where each of the items for my photography will be packed.  Whether this will work in the long run…who knows! But I feel better for having done it! I have to make sure that cameras and anything with a lithium battery are either in my carry on or my personal item…they can't be checked!

All I can say is it is a start.  I didn't get a lot done towards Cheryl's arrival, but I need to be making these decisions right along with my getting ready for company!  I’m hoping that my head will stop spinning and I can get more accomplished tomorrow.

Esther stopped by this morning and left me two of her scrub shirts for Vet Tech school.  She needed patches sewn on them.  I did get that little sewing job completed this afternoon.  And, then I promptly took a little nap in my sewing chair!

I have just returned from prayer meeting.  I’m not sure what the evening will hold for me!  As soon as I publish the blog, I plan to eat a bite of supper and then empty the dishwasher.  That may be the extent of what I do this evening that takes much effort.  I did finish the Cardinal Sampler yesterday and am now in the mood to work on another sampler and I have put in a few stitches today.  I really need to get back to Christmas stitching.  Plus I do have to choose what I’m taking on the cruise as I do plan to stitch on the Christmas ornaments while at sea…at least a little bit!  Lots to do in these coming days!

Busy, Busy Saturday

The pictured room, the guest room aka Cheryl's room is ready to be occupied by Cheryl. And, if all goes as scheduled, Cheryl will be here next week at this time.  Today, I washed, dried and remade the bed with fresh linens.  I fluffed pillows, dusted, and vacuumed.  Today I did what I guess you could call "fussy dusting." I actually moved items and dusted under and around them…most dusting sessions, I just Swiffer around objects on table.  The hardest table to dust isn't in this photo…but it takes a bit of doing to get things back the way they were!   I started cleaning the hall bathroom…washed and dried and rehung the towels.  The towels hadn't been used since they were washed last…but they hadn’t been hanging there for some time…so they needed freshening.

A little more about this room.  The quilt at the foot of the bed was made by my grandmother.  And, you see a couple of my tiny efforts at quilting…the wall hanging and the large pillow in front of the headboard.  This is the type of quilting that I like to do. I’m not much on making large bed-size quilts.  I enjoy making quilted pictures like these.  The baby doll that you see in the corner was one of my Aunt Lois' dolls from her doll collection.  Aunt Lois made the christening dress that she is wearing and she is sitting in my grandfather's high chair.

I’m through with my getting-ready efforts for tonight.  I'm two initials and four numbers away from finishing the sampler I’m working on.  I hope to finish that tonight and maybe watch a little TV and put my feet up.

Is It Really Friday?

I haven't done my usual Friday routine (grocery store) so I am off as to what day it is.  I have stopped several times today and had to think what day it is.  I did get all my patriotic decorating done today.  Other than that it has been a little of this and a little of that.  I have piled up more things on the stacks of "things to go on the cruise." I hope I have room for all these planned things to take!  I guess I will discover that when the day actually comes to put everything in the suitcase, carry on, and personal item!

I was able to tell the oral surgeon yesterday that finally this week I am feeling more like myself and that my energy level seems to have risen…thank goodness!  I continued to feel good today…so glad to be trending on the upward scale of feeling better!  I have made many trips up and down the stairs getting things and putting other things away.  I am glad to see the living room back to normal…it got a bit messy in the process of putting Spring items away and getting patriotic/Summer items out. That job is done and there are just a few things still on the table in there.  I am leaving those to be used on the front porch…I think.  I plan to run the vacuum in the living room tomorrow and declare that room done…at least for the time being! I've got a little to do in Cheryl's room and since she is the first to arrive…then "her" bathroom.  Mainly little things to do…or so it seems at the moment!  And, I’m finally enjoying doing them, since I am feeling better.

Oh, I will have to share that I have attempted to drink from a straw since that ban was lifted.  Well…so strange…but…one can not drink from a straw if that opening in the sinus wall isn't covered well…so…if…I want to drink from a straw, I have to cover the area where the hole is with the side of my tongue…then I can drink from a straw…at this point I'm not sure it worth the effort!  All I can say is: "We are fearfully and wonderfully made, and, we don't realize how fearfully until things start going wrong!"

Tonight's photo shows one of the little vignettes that I created today. These items are all sitting in an antique metal and wood scoop.  I will enjoy these till the end of the summer.  I am concentrating on patriotic this year because of the USA's 250th birthday celebration.  I have been having fun stitching lots of patriotic items!

Permission Granted

Really both doctors, my personal care physician and oral surgeon, granted me permission today.  My personal care physician's office called with lab report and permission to carry on…that labs were status quo so same ol', same 'ol.  When I saw my oral surgeon today, he said that there was still a hole, but that tissue around it had healed nicely and he granted me permission to blow my nose, use a straw, etc.  He did say that it was going to feel strange when I do blow my nose.  I guess my allergies heard what he said, as I have had what I call an allergy breakthrough this evening.  My eyes started itching, my nose started running, and I started sneezing!  And, though, I was glad to have permission to blow my nose..it is a weird sensation to blow it with this hole in my sinus wall.  The oral surgeon did talk about possible surgery to fix this hole.  I will go back at the end of June and we will decide if it looks like it will be necessary.  He said that he has had patients have the hole heal on its own…but that it has taken six months or more.  He also said that if I choose surgery that it could mean more than one, because in the healing process a place can reopen.  Not thinking about this at the moment! He did tell me to forget about it now and enjoy my company and my cruise!

Once today's oral surgeon appointment was completed, the way is pretty much clear for me to concentrate on getting ready for company and the cruise.  My pharmacy called to let me know that they didn’t have enough of one of my meds, but that it should be here after 3pm.  Since I had them on the phone, I asked about getting three small prescription bottles with labels on them so I can put two weeks worth in…these three month bottles are so big!  My doctor said that I needed to have my meds in their prescription labeled bottles.  So this is an answer.  The pharmacy did that for me…so this afternoon, I put two weeks worth in the small bottles and have taken them upstairs with other things to take. Something done for my packing!

I took a break a while ago and called Cheryl…I HAVE to start bugging her about whether she is packed yet or not!

Tonight's photo (not the best picture…but I wanted to blog and not mess with camera settings!) shows the tiny cross stitch pillows that I finished yesterday.  Today I have pulled out patriotic and summer decorations to put around in the living room…hopefully I will get that done tomorrow.

Rainy Wednesday

I just checked my rain gauge, and we have gotten a little over 2 1/2 inches of rain overnight and during the day today.  I got to drive in some of that early this morning.  It was coming down pretty good on my way over to my doctor appointment. But, happily by the time my appointment was finished, there was a break in the rain and I traveled home with not even a drop of rain.  I would say that another wave of rain/storms came through not long after I got back in the house.

My mail was delivered shortly after I got home and I had a couple of Amazon packages with items both for company and for the trip.  I opened those up and checked everything out, had lunch, and, then I was ready for a nap.  It was a nice rainy afternoon for a nap and I slept for longer than usual.  After I woke up, I worked some more on my little cross stitch pillows.  They are now ready to be sewn up and then I will be ready to use them in my patriotic decorations.  Well, a couple of them are rabbits…really for Spring decorations.  One of the rabbit ones I probably won't use till next Spring.  But the other one will be fine propped in with patriotic/summer decorations.

Tomorrow will be interrupted by another doctor appointment.  I am going back to see the oral surgeon.  I think he just wants to check how the perforation in the sinus wall is doing.  I go there after lunch.  I hope I will be able to get a few things done in the morning.  These appointments cut into my day!

I got home a little while ago from Bible study.  I've fixed myself a cup of soup.  After I publish the blog and eat my soup, I think I will go hunt down a spool of thread and a needle to finish of these smalls.

Fun Friend Day

Today I spent the afternoon with Linda H. She had an appointment in Tullahoma.  We try to get together when she comes to town…and, it's not like she lives a million miles away…she lives maybe 30 minutes from here.  This time I had her come over here for lunch.  We enjoyed lunch and enjoyed catching up…and, chased a lot of rabbits.  I realized after she left that I hadn't finished one of the tales I started telling…one of those rabbits got me off course! So I texted her "the rest of the story. Often I’m two tales ahead in my head of what I am saying…so details of the one I’m telling get left out…like the ending this time!🙄

This evening I'm working on the small cross stitch pillows that I sewed together last night,  I’m in the midst of stuffing them. I plan to continue doing that this evening.  I have to be up and out early in the morning, as I have my six month check in with the doctor.  My doctor is in a town about 45 min, to an hour away…and, tomorrow there is a chance of rain…we haven't had much rain lately so I won't complain.  But I am hoping that it either won't be raining when I traveling to and from or that it will only be a light rain.  One good thing about my drive, it is not interstate driving and the roads are good and not highly trafficked between here and there.

Another "Always-a-Good-Day" Day

I always say that a haircut day is always a good day!  And, today, haircut day is part of the countdown of my busy upcoming 4 weeks…only one more haircut before I leave on the Alaska cruise.  The cruise app tells me that it is 28 days until embarkation day…and, a lot is happening in those next 28 days! 😳

I have just gotten back from prayer meeting. Now to settle in for the evening.  Today I spent some time in the sewing room. I got the small cross stitch pieces that I have finished in the last few weeks and got them sewn up into small pillows…at least the first steps.  I still have to turn them right side out and then stuff them and then sew up the openings before I can call them pillows or what the needlework world calls "smalls."  I may do a little turning and stuffing tonight.  I did herd all the bunnies and rolled all the eggs back into their storage places so once again Cheryl has a bed for her stay that isn't covered with stuff!

The temperatures over the weekend were quite chilly.  Melany told me that she thinks that this was our blackberry winter, as their blackberry bushes are blooming.  Today started out chilly, but warmed up nicely. A pretty day but quite breezy.

14-Day Countdown; 21-Day Countdown; 30-Day Countdown

Definitely looking at the calendar these days. Two weeks from today Cheryl arrives.  Three weeks from today Rachel and Julianna arrive. And, 29 days from today the four of us will have our bags packed and leaving my house.  Cheryl, Rachel, and Julianna will drop me off at Melany's and Wade's on their way to the airport.  Then 30 days from today, Melany, Wade, and I will be flying to Seattle and then boarding our ship. Sort of blows my mind!  I look forward to all of it, but it does sort of seem like a whirlwind!

Today has been a day of doing small jobs around the house.  Window washing energy did not return!  But each small task helps with the big picture! Oh, last night I ended with not knowing if Melany and Wade were going to come today.  We talked a little after I published the blog and decided that they wouldn't come today.  Melany still not feeling the greatest after her bout with gout and I'm still recovering from my mouth/sinus problem.  We need to recover in order to deal with the events in the upcoming weeks.  Melany adds on ending a school year in the above countdowns…not an easy task.  And, since we will be spending a lot of time together for 10 days on the ship, we can skip a time or two of being together!

I’m just down to adding initials and dates on the sampler that I have been working on.  I guess when I get that done, I need to get back to Christmas ornament stitching.  I do plan to take Christmas ornament stitching on the cruise with me.  I did some Christmas stitching on the cruise that I took with Nathan and family…so some of my ornaments this year will have had stitches placed in the, in the Bahamas on a ship balcony and next I hope to get some stitches put in on board the ship either in the open Pacific Ocean or in Alaska. Time will tell if that will happen.  Tonight, maybe, I can get the sampler finished and then move on to other projects.

May Day!

And, the title is not a distress call!  May is here and 1/3 of the year is behind us.  My main accomplishment today was grocery shopping and getting them put away.  That didn't leave me with enough energy to do any more windows.  I did get patriotic decorations downstairs.  I still need to make the bunnies and eggs hop and roll back into their storage places.  I did more with my sewing table…it is half for sewing projects (getting patriotic stitched pieces ready to display) and half for putting out things for the cruise.  The turning up of the calendar page shows me the days left before cruising…all 31 of them.  Lots will happen in these 31 days!  I go back and forth between being excited and my stomach sinking!

By putting things for the cruise on the sewing table, I got my cameras out of my carry on bag…so I could take some pictures.  A little while ago I went out to capture some of the blooms that have opened in the last few days.  I was surprised with the small white irises in tonight's photo…I’m sure that they weren’t blooming yesterday…but then I was busy with windows so might not have noticed.  I’m sure they weren’t open the day before.  While I was outside I did pull a few weeds…but with this hole in my sinus passage, it isn't very comfortable to bend over…my excuse and I’m sticking to it! Another stack of papers got shredded today…that small stack was on the sewing table…so that helped clear the table!  The vacuum got pushed a little more today.  I’m working in "my room" (the family room) at the moment.  I have a basket next to my recliner with reading material and note pads and clip boards…it's a place to keep them where I can grab them.  Amongst the books I found a book that I may take on the cruise…I plan to have plenty of reading material on my phone and iPad (e-books), but I think I need to have one in my hand just in case technology fails me!  I doubt if I have a lot of time to read…but I don't want to be without a book.  This is a small paperback…so shouldn't weigh me down too much!

I’m waiting to talk to Melany to find out if she and Wade are coming tomorrow.  She had mentioned they might, but we left it that we would see how each of us was feeling before we made that decision!  She is supposed to call me back a little later.  I’m thinking that it is about time to do some stitching.

To be continued! Be safe! Be well! Be cautious!
