I started this blog to keep folk up to date on my husband's melanoma treatments. I have kept up daily blogs for 15 1/2 years…sometimes health related...sometimes just daily routine. June 16th Woody took his final breath in his long health battle. I have blogged for so long that it is part of my daily routine…so I guess I will continue with posts from me about how I cope with this new stage in my life…widowhood.

Sending Smoke Signals!
Maybe the smoke signals have been seen. It is starting to look like Woody will be released tomorrow. "Things" seem to be lining up. He had a picc line placed today so he can receive IV antibiotics at home. Someone came to get him signed up for home health both for the IV infusions (though, I believe that we will be doing them...they will train us how to do it and provide the supplies needed) and for some in-home PT. We were told by one of Dr. Holt's team that his cultures had grown another bacteria which doesn't respond to the antibiotic that MRSA responds to, but then we were told later that he will be getting the MRSA antibiotic. Didn't see anyone on the infectious disease team today. He is about to get his first blood draw through the picc line. They are watching kidneys, liver, etc. to see how they are doing on the antibiotics. I think that home health nurses will be doing blood draws once we are home. It's a lot to get our heads wrapped around. A physical therapist came and worked with him this afternoon. He gave him some exercises...now to remember those! Woody has been up several times today. His pain is pretty much under control. It mainly hurts when he gets a muscle spasm in his leg or when he puts weight on it. But he did start putting some weight on it. I think that he is scheduled for PT again tomorrow. Tomorrow we are supposed to be trained for giving the infusions. Then I'm sure that we will have lots of appointments handed to us. Oh, another goal met today = getting the wound drain out...that was the first thing that got done today and I almost forgot to mention it! His leg still hasn't been unwrapped by Dr. Holt's team. Last time he just went home with a BIG bandaid. Time will tell how they will send his surgical home this time...or if we are just anticipating going home too soon! But I REALLY think that it REALLY does seem like tomorrow is THE DAY. We will see where the blog gets written tomorrow night!
