I started this blog to keep folk up to date on my husband's melanoma treatments. I have kept up daily blogs for 15 1/2 years…sometimes health related...sometimes just daily routine. June 16th Woody took his final breath in his long health battle. I have blogged for so long that it is part of my daily routine…so I guess I will continue with posts from me about how I cope with this new stage in my life…widowhood.

A Major Accomplishment!
The picture tells it all. He got up and sat in a chair for about three hours. PT came in and helped him get into the chair and back into bed. OT came and evaluated what he can do and what he needs. One thing she asked about was what we call a picker-upper. This was perfect time to ask about that aparatus, as the one he has just broken before we came to Vanderbilt. So he is supposed to get a new one. He was pretty exhausted by the time he got back into bed. His coloring is pretty good in this picture...taken shortly after he got all situated in the chair. He was much more pale when he got back into bed. One of the team of surgeons came in and talked and said that they are recommending that he stay in the hospital longer...till he gets stronger! Oh, boy! It makes me wonder if the rehab places are wanting him stronger before they will accept him...just a thought I had after the doctors left. He will have dialysis tomorrow. Hopefully can sit in a chair, again. I just wish that they had done more getting him up before this. I think this was only the third time since his surgery that he has gotten out of bed. I believe that his right leg scares them. I told them that his leg's condition is the same today as it was a year or more ago. He has learned to adapt to it and has a way to get around. He was weak today...but I think that they could see that he knew how to work his feet into position. But for the moment...he has to build up his strength. He's had a busy day and is already dozing. I hope that falling to sleep early doesn't mean he will be awake through most of the night! But for the moment I think that anybsleep he can snatch is good for his healing. His surgery was two weeks ago today. Time flies...when you are having fun...and even when you're not! To be continued! Be safe! Be well! Be cautous!
