I started this blog in 2009 to keep folk up to date on my husband's melanoma treatments. I have kept up daily blogs for 17 years…sometimes health related...sometimes just daily routine. 6/16/24 Woody took his final breath in his long health battle. I have blogged for so long that it is part of my daily routine…so I guess I will continue with posts from me about how I cope with this new stage in my life…widowhood.

58 Years Ago This Date…
58 years ago, I was a student at Cottey College. I had met Woody the previous October. This January date in 1968, he made the trip from Rolla, MO to visit me in Nevada (nuh VAY du), MO. During the day we drove around the area just talking and at some point he asked me to marry him. One of us thought that it was in the afternoon and the other the evening. The funny thing that at this point I don't remember which I thought it was and which Woody thought it was! We had only seen each other four times in person, but we wrote letters every day since we met and got to know each other mainly through our letters during the almost a year and a half from when we met and when we got married in March of 1969. So there is my nostalgia for the day. I haven't gotten as much undecorating done as I would have liked, but some progress was made. I brought all the boxes downstairs that I store the Carolers in...BUT...I couldn't just put the Carolers in the boxes as the boxes had other things in them...so I had to take out what was in them and put those items back where they belong. By the time I did that I was tired! But the pile of boxes on the bed in the guest room has grown...so progress is happening...today Christmas bells got put away and some of the angels that were in the dining room got put into a box and taken upstairs. The table in the dining room is still full of snowmen and trees. The living room couch is full of boxes for the Carolers (hopefully they will find themselves filled and upstairs tomorrow). The loveseat glider is still full of Christmas pillows and Christmas stockings and other flat fabric Christmas items. In other words there aren't many places to sit in the living room! This will pass and get better...eventually. Undecorating is quite a process and takes a while...and, I can only do it for so long before I have to retreat to my comfy chair! The weather improved a bit...the sun was shining and the temperatures did rise above freezing...but it was still pretty cold with the breeze...the feels-like temperature was in the 20s despite being in the 30s. It was quite chilly when I took the trash can to the road...the first time I had opened my front door and stepped out since Friday when I shut the door after getting home from Joseph's birthday party. My plans for the evening are stitching and reading. I'm through with decorations for today! To be continued! Be safe! Be well! Be cautious!
