Partial Respite

Tonight's photo is of the elastomeric pump that contains Woody's vancomycin antibiotic.  It's a pretty nifty invention...an easy way to administer IV fluids in the home.  This is a picture of the larger pump that we had been using—the one that is a 90 minute infusion.  We had been stopping it at 72 minutes since a call from the infusion folk called last week and said that lab reports indicated that he needed to be taking less. Vancomycin is hard on the kidneys so they are monitoring closely.  We got a new shipment of these pumps on Tuesday and they are smaller and now contain an infusion that lasts 60 minutes.  I was ready to give him one of the shorter infusions today, when we got a call from the infusion folk telling me that labs showed high and to withhold the infusion for today.  They will get back to me prior to tomorrow's infusion time to let me know if he will have an infusion or not.  So at least for today we have a respite from the infusion.

Woody had PT today and continues to perform above the curve of where he should be at this point in his recovery.  He is working hard to get back full use of his leg.  Isaac was here when the PT person was here and we went down to put the vancomycin back in the fridge after the phone call.  Isaac got to try a couple of the exercises that Woody is doing.

Just had my personal shoppers deliver some groceries!  Nathan and Kathy were at Aldis and tested me to ask if there was anything that we wanted.  Woody had added some Aldis items to our grocery list so I gladly texted the three things we wanted from there.  One less stop for me tomorrow!  And, we get to enjoy grapes tonight and Woody can have blueberries on his oatmeal in the morning!

So respite from IV antibiotic, but continuing to work hard with PT...summary of Woody's day!
