More Good News!

We hardly know what to do with good news two days in a row! Woody went to hemoialysis a little after 7 this morning. I headed back to the dialysis center a little after 11 to wait for him to be finished so we could then go into the peritoneal dialysis part of the center. Today was the first scheduled peritoneal line flush after his surgery last Thursday. Much to everyone's joy the dialysis solution went in and then came out the way it is supposed to do. After this I will do a flush daily until the surgeon says that Woody can start back on peritoneal dialysis. It was so good to have it work the way it was supposed to...we were all so happy to see it work...both of us and the PD nurse (and later the other PD nurse when we told him). The surgeon said that he could start PD again about two weeks after the surgery as long as all the surgical sites were healing well. The surgeon will make that decision next Wednesday when Woody sees him for his two-week-post surgery appointment. But at the moment it looks like we will be back to doing dialysis at home once again...looks like last week's surgery was successful at getting the line to both fill and drain. Now we will see how tomorrow goes with me doing the flush here at the house on my own! It all seemed very straight forward...plus I have written directions from our training time. Next week it will be the year anniversary of when we started training at the dialysis center...so the year anniversary of Woody being on dialysis. Last week when Woody had surgery to reposition and get the line working was exactly 1 year and 6 days after his surgery to place the peritoneal catheter line the first time. One of the things that we were all especially happy about today...the fill and drain went very quickly...and, Woody has almost always drained slowly...so maybe this surgery solved a slow drain problem and hopefully it will stay fixed for a while! Be safe! Be well! Be cautious!
