Fall Ball!

September is here and our Fall Ball schedule started tonight. Joy and Esther's team played tonight. This is their first time to play ball in a league and their ages put them into the player pitch teams. And, the boys who pitched tonight could really put them across the plate. We're really proud of the girls. They both hit the ball when their turn came to bat (there were LOTS of strike outs by the other players (boys)). Our girls were both thrown out...BUT they both advanced the same runner...Joy advanced him to 2nd and Esther advanced him to 3rd and another batter batted him in...so they helped their team get a run. Way to go! Joy and Esther were the only girls on either of the teams tonight. Their team lost, but it was a very good game. Esther had an unusual thing happen when she was playing left field. The ball was hit to her, but before she could get to it it went THROUGH the fence...the runner had to stop at 2nd base..ground rule double...and Esther never got to field it. Woody walked to the Post Office to mail a wedding present for his walk today. We had a change in school plans...we are having Thursday on Friday. The children had dentist appointments this morning so I took my day off today. I ended up spending a good part of the morning doing things for the girls' sewing lessons...so sort of had school anyway! With having only an hour to sew once a week, we barely get what we are attempting to sew finished much get things straightened out. I decided that it was too much of a mess for Esther to have to wade through tomorrow. So I straightened things up and did a couple of steps in the sewing part of both Abigail and Esther's project. I ate a late lunch and then got underway on our supper for tonight. I made eggplant parmesan. It just barely got came out of the oven before it was time for us to go to the game. We finished eating and headed out the door to the ball field. I was dreading the heat and humidity...but it was very pleasant. We were in the shade the whole time the sun was shining and there was a light breeze and the humidity wasn't bad at all. A front is supposed to come through and the humidity is supposed to drop...perhaps that front got here during the game? Fall Ball is only played during the month of September and there are quite a few games...especially since Elijah is also playing. He is playing coach pitch ball like he did earlier in the year in Little League. His first game is Saturday. Play ball!
