Welcome, Summer!

Summer is here! When I realized that summer had arrived, I also realized that we had sheltered at home for the whole season of Spring! Woody and I have both spent some time out on the front porch. It was finally warm enough for him...upper 80's! We have just come in...enjoying the longest day of the year on the front porch. Of all things for me to make on the first day of Summer...chicken gumbo. It was something that sounded good to Woody and definitely helped to warm him up...at least it did me! That has a long cooking time...but is so worth it served with a nice scoop of white rice...but probably better on a winter or cool spring day! We did enjoy it, and, again, there are leftovers..which always helps me not have to make something else too soon! At the moment we have a bit of a choice as to what we will choose for meals. The rest of our day has pretty much been taken up with reading (both of us), TV (Woody), picture taking (me), watering (me), visiting a little with Nathan, Kathy and some of the grandchildren (both). Speaking of the neighbor grandchildren...Elijah trapped his 33rd squirrel today. We are going to take a bit of time off from the trapping...wonder if our yard will fill right back up with squirrels! As soon as Elijah moved the trap and the squirrel, there was a squirrel sitting right where the trap had been enjoying the seeds that were on the ground! Perhaps he was just taunting us that he was smarter than the average squirrel and had so far avoided the trap but was still getting seeds! Be safe! Be well! Be cautious! Let Summer commence!
