Day 18: Christmas Memories

Tonight's memory will center around a trip that Woody and I took...well, a side trip when he was being treated at The National Institures of Health. On one of our trips to Bethsada, Maryland, we stopped at Orange, Virginia for a very special tour...a private tour of James and Dolley Madison's home, Montpelier. We arranged ahead of time for this tour. It was pouring rain that day and this tour was prior to regular hours. When we finally found the right gate to enter with the car, we were lead up to the house and escorted inside the house and had the most wonderful tour...just the two of us and docent. We learned all kinds of insider information...very fascinating. I think that the best part of it for me was being in the room where he wrote out his ideas for The U.S. Constitution...that room had a large window in it and the view was magnificent of the Blue Ridge Mountains...if the day had been clear. I am going to put in here the photo that I posted on Facebook back in 2012. Try to see if you can read what I typed under the picture as an explanation of how he came to figure out what needed to be in our Constitution. Anyway, this ornament is a very good memory of the fun part of the trip to go see doctors at NIH. Today is another memory of the fact that Woody is still with us to celebrate his 77th birthday...he has faced many a trial and challenge over the years. I think that he is about to enter his 16th year of dealing with 4th stage metestatic melanoma. He has spent most of the day resting under the warmth of the St. Louis Cardinal blanket (made by Nathan!)that Nathan and Kathy and family gave him yesterday for his birthday. I have had a busy day with Marie (one of my barn buddies and my Sunday School teacher) shopping for a family for Christmas. Tonight was prayer meeting...so it is good to finally settle into my chair! We will be facing extremely cold temperature when we leave for dialysis in the morning...we will need to bundle up...lower 20s! I already feel cold! To be continued! Be safe! Be well! Be cautious! 'Tis the season!
